Studio Configuration Illustrations

Post by lizlarsen »

Since LZX is gearing up for the release of our various video input modules, I've been working on a set of graphical elements to use in illustrations to demonstrate various studio and technique setups and workflows.

I wanted to get your feedback and let me know what you would find useful information to include in these illustrations.

I'd also love for you to reply with a detailed description of your studio/workflow setup, so that I can get more inspiration for illustrations and include them in published material.

Great idea. Thinking about it makes me realize how ridiculously convoluted my workflow is.
Let's see...
MacBook video out into extron scan converter into Panasonic wv-5 channel 1.
Wv-5 main out into vsg. Panasonic n3 broadcast camera into Roland v-5 mixer channel 1. Casio video camera into channel 2. Casio is usually the feedback camera. Panasonic is room environment camera and is gen lockable. Output of Roland v-5 goes into channel 2 of wmv-5. This allows mixer two to be mixed into mixer one then feed into the lzx. Lzx out goes into korg entrancer. Entrancer goes into Canopus 110 into a different MacBook for recording or into resolume for additional processing. There is also a Panasonic wv ds5100into the wv-5 external key input for additional mayhem. Think that it for my basic workflow.

I don't think I've ever patched my gear together the same way twice. :despair:

One suggestion is that the computer should be a laptop since it would simplify the illustration. Personally I'm a desk top man.

Thanks guys! Matos, yes that sounds like a very interesting setup. I'll work something up for that.

giorgio, what about your typical ipods + TBCs workflow?

I'll definitely do a laptop graphic when illustrating portable/performance rigs. I think a desktop/editing workstation is more appropriate for showing studio configurations.

Nice!!!
To me, THAT is what the modern audiovisual art studio is all about. I posted the pic on the LZX facebook page, I hope you don't mind.

I'm honored! That empty boat above the racked triple monitor is dedicated to new lzx hotness. My wife and I love our laboratory/bedroom. It really feels like a dream. It took eons to get everything talking together and work all the kinks out. But we have it running smoothly with the older MacBook running audio, and silentway with simple video out, and the newer one for video recording, quartz composer, and editing. There's also a old livid ohm controller for midi control of resolume or cell before it goes into the lzx. This setup is great for us as it allows the best of both analogue and digital with lots of options for sources and control.

The graphics are great Lars, perhaps there could be a companion tool to the patch tool to help illustrate signal flow external to the LZX system.
