Nice!

Do you plan to share it via Github or something ? Processing being quite popular, maybe other people in the community would be interested to give a hand at this ?

At the moment the main driving force behind this project is that I use it to get some personal experience with using the Processing language, rather than the goal being the finished Rack Planner itself. Over time this'll probably change, but for now I'm happy to work on this on my own, update my blog with progress and listen to, and act on any ideas offered.

Once I'm at the stage where it has all of dougcl's planner's functionality I'll release it to some testers. After that I have some interesting ideas to try out, and have already received some from other people that I will include.

If there's something you think would make an interesting feature please do PM me.

Thanks

Ok. THis seems like a nice learning project. I've yet to start my "Let's learn Processing" phase. :-)

Yes please, keep us posted on your work!

Looks really interesting. I have an idea that might fit well with this but want to prototype it first. Never heard of Processing before, looks very promising.

I can't decide if this is outside of the scope of a "Rack Planner" philosophically but I've always thought the addition of Patch Cords would be an amazing tool for planning/sharing patch ideas. Whether this should be a separate app called "Patch Planner" i'm not sure.

I plan to do exactly that. With even patching between different formats being possible. It'll be a while, but please do keep checking back here for updates.

Well, the cool thing is that the module zips are completely open and can be used for whatever purpose you want. You just have to do the programming work and make sure the additional patch tags are added to the module XML. Write your own program! Create your own database!

All I ask is that developers offer their xml tag suggestions in the Schema thread sticked in this subforum.

Please let me know what additional tags are going to be needed in the rack and module xml, if any.

My main rack/cab (3 rows) has MOTM on the right, and Dotcom on the left. It'd be nice if the Rackplanner would support snap-to-grid within the same rack, or the ability to position two or more racks of differing formats together in various ways.

Positionable rack functionality is already catered for in the new code. I just need to get the drawing routines to process a second rack, and the mouse routines to drag them around and this should all come together nicely. This will be my next focus.

Snap to grid between 'boxes' could be a switchable option. I'll add it to the ideas list.

Thanks for your feedback

Progress update...

Multiple independent, movable racks in a single plan is working nicely...

Definitely, DEFINITELY liking where this is going, especially with the initial overlap items and then the multiple racks/formats in one instance ^_^

maybe this was covered, but would you consider doing a multi-format version, one that handles various systems? maybe too ambitious but a lot of folks mix frac, euro, .com, etc.

Great! Any chance of rotating sections 90 degrees?

Don't say it couldn't happen.

Absolutely possible (it's just another tag in the XML and a bit of code to cater for it).
