Very cool!

OK, I'll admit that I don't know the originals as well as I should... Does this mean there are two filters to chose from?
Discrete SEM-lineage VCFs deliver authentic OB-X-style tone and presence
Genuine Curtis filters add bold OB-Xa/OB-8 character

Anyway, looks great! Can't wait to hear demos and reviews. With the price I am guessing two years before I can afford one, but it is at the top of my list... (yet low enough I won't be tempted by a clone!!)

Sexy MF.

If there is a desktop or rack version (eventually), I would instantly regret my decision to fund the Abstrakt VS-1.

Looks great! Sounds great feature wise too. But no room for big ol'boards in my Studio.

Seems to lack the stereo/panning capabilities though, judging by the outputs.

Yes, this does look great, literally all the things we were imagining. But I wouldn’t worry too much about it versus the VS1 – the very fact they’ve included the vintage knob means that this is still very much a DSI product. VS1 will be much closer to the original. How much the differences matter is up to the individual, but philosophically you know these are coming from different places.

Doesn’t the vintag knob just age the response ? How can they build a new synth with vintage/aged components.

Out of my league and capability.

Be cool if they made a budget version , a Take 5 version of the Oberheim.

The Take 5 is the perfect marriage of surface simplicity + modern modulation + sound quality.
It’s such a little work horse that chucks usable sounds at you. This in an Obey package I’d buy on sight.

Maybe they'll sell a module (though I doubt it)

OB-6 still exists!

Oofdah. I'm gonna have to dump my OB6 to afford this.

Since Dave Smith was involved with this, I hope there will be plenty available and not just a few one offs like Tom's previous more recent offerings.

Why wouldn’t they? They did for the Prophet 08, Prophet 12, Prophet 6, OB—6, Prophet 5….I’d say there’s a 95%+ chance there will be a module, but it won’t come out for at least six months after (which they do every time).

Nothing in the SEM/OB-lines requires vintage parts (plus they are obvs using new CEM filters). A bit part of the sound was how the tuning algos worked (or didn't) and the card to card calibration variance. So while arguably the vintage knob will allow you to dial that in it's a retroactive approach to recreating what those synths did naturally. It means that the default setting is DSI "perfect".

Shame it's not discrete OTA filters like the original - I wonder how different they sound

Wowy wow wow! I was just watching J3PO's "Why I love my OB-Xa" then jumped over here to find this announcement. I will absolutely be getting one of these! I was concerned they may not update it enough, but they really added a lot of stuff compared to the OB-Xa. Very exciting. Cheers!

Really well done from Oberheim IMO. The dual filters, plus access to hi-pass, bandpass, notch modes, and bi-timbrality really make it very attractive to me even though I own an original OBX.. I do not have the space though, and dislike using modules, so I think I will pass for now but it is probably going to be a big success.

Sexy as hell. Initially second guessing a fairly big upcoming studio purchase but then arrived to the end mentioning the price. If I had the budget I would be all over this! Looking forward to hearing what others do with it 🙂

The Prophet 5 Rev 4 had the module announced/available at around the same time did they?
