The Medusa makes a great drone synth...

Post by kf6gpe »

Picked up one used for myself for Christmas. I've found it a lot easier to get the sounds out of it that I've wanted than anything else I've been able to play with.

Here's a little something I put together this week.

That's a nice one!

I had one for a while, and found it pretty decent for drones. I just found I preferred a modular approach though, whether hardware or software or hybrid. At the same time, what I liked most about Medusa were the grid and the interaction that can happen between sequences and the voice allocation leading to a kind of polymeter effect. So I didn't wind up using it for drones as often as parts that I'd play alongside drones.

Another Medusa drone. This thing is just too much fun.

I'm just about to go live with mine; I was going to sell it until I discovered the drone mode, now it's my primary live instrument. The other is an Alesis SR18 triggered with random beats from a Drumkid. When I'm back in practice, I'll be running very slow modulated sequences on the Medusa to accompany my improvising on bass trombone.

Excellent!! I'd love to hear what you do with it if you can get someone to do a recording of your live setup.

Good luck!

I'm doing a gig next Thursday, and I will be packing a Zoom H4nPro to record a 30 minute set, a link to which I will post once it's on Bandcamp. I'm adding a Monotron Delay to spice up the sequenced drones I have saved.

I recorded this in one take last week and released it on Saturday ( split into parts for Bandcamp upload ), using my live rig of Medusa, Nymphes and MS70CDR straight into the Zoom H4nPro. I learnt a lot from playing live, and this recording better reflects my process. I'm currently at the end of this thread:
