Audioweevil08

Post by chrisdermo »

Just came up on my reverb feed and I had to repost...... Because the price made me laugh both heartily and out loud for the first time this week.

£2800 !!

I suspect the lucky collector will whisk it off to a high security warehouse not to be seen again until it goes up for auction at Sothebys in a few years.

When that listing popped up in my Reverb feed this morning I began to regret picking up my Postcard Weevil on the site a month prior knowing I could've held out for that, until I noticed that I'd have to part with the price of mine 23 times over for it :lolhammer:

Maybe our friend here has caught a premonition of the post-apocalyptic noise synth boom and is trying to pre-empt it by massively marking up Tom's work? As someone from a neighboring state the people of Delaware have always perplexed me.
"One day at Black Mountain College, David Tudor was eating his lunch. A student came over to his table and began asking him questions. David Tudor went on eating his lunch. The student kept on asking questions. Finally, David Tudor looked at him and said, 'If you don't know, why do you ask?'"

Saw that too. Imagine it will sit there at that price for awhile. Crazy.

I might have a pristine BB BoardWeevil 2015 for as low as 2000€ if anyone's interested. Don't sleep on it, won't last long !

£190 was the original price!
(I'd forgotten - checked archive.org)
SCALPING to say the least.

I definitely bought mine at around double the original price and sold it for the same - £190 brand new was a steal to be fair.

Hey maybe they'll get lucky and someone will want one enough pay a LOT of money. Tom imagine the money you could make releasing one off remakes of these old things into the eBay/reverb sphere! :hihi:

I very much dislike this speculative/investment/collector approach - of course, not limited to synths by any stretch!

One offs: very happy making a living off batches - I realised early on that one-offs don't stack up!

Of course! I hope I didn't come off as trying to make a serious suggestion there.

The funny thing is that there's another one up for sale on Reverb for $450 as we speak!! I too had a good chuckle when the $3500 unit popped up. Newsflash – if there's been one sitting there at $450 not moving, shifting one at 7x is probably not going to be a thing.

Apparently, you just made one sell for $450. I’m not seeing it on Reverb now.

Wish I could sell mine with a clean conscience. It effectively cost me a lot more than $450 - it was part of a package deal that I wouldn’t have gotten involved with if I could have bought the Weevil separately. I sold the other thing at a huge loss. Which was a mistake on a couple levels..

But my dry skin doesn’t work with the Weevil’s touch plates. So it has been whisked off to a high-security warehouse...

The seller also has a cwejman qmmf for £5000. Don't think you have to look hard to find a cheaper one that even from other reverb scammers. I wonder what the point of that site is, anyone ever got a good deal??

I wonder if that is the very same unit that sold on Reverb within the last week or two. I don’t remember the exact price of that listing but it was something reasonable because I don’t remember laughing, just being bummed that I didn’t see it before it sold.

Nope it's still there. Just $2100 USD. LOL. I could snag a cocoquantus and plumbutter for that.

I could grab a used Buchla 208 for that.

I could snag the full Isakul Mobenthey euro setup for that.

I could grab two Lorre Mill double knot's and two Keyed Mosstones for that.

Someone is just insane. I mean, theres a full BB Synth voice for 2k US on Reverb right now. I laugh at this weevil listing every time I open my Reverb feed.

I saw that as well when it originally popped up, and was sorely tempted to contact the seller and say "wtf". But you know, I seriously doubt folks who do stuff like this very often hit their target - it's pure speculation.
Reverb is actually not a bad place for buying and selling though, in my experience - it just attracts the same bad elements as anywhere else.

I like that the seller consistently labels it a “WeEvil”.

Perhaps seller feels compelled not to release it back into the world, but... as usual, could be persuaded for a price...
