MegaOhmAudio vactrol CdS VCF/A

Post by megaohm »

Here's my latest module. It's a vactrol controlled VCF/VCA.
Lot's of info on my website but that won't be posted until this weekend (the web mistress is real busy).
For now just a few short samples and the user guide.
I only have 8 for sale because the panel fabricators screwed up the other 12! I should hear back from them before the end of the week.

Includes normalizing headers so two can be hooked together behind the panel for ease of use.

Price is $216 + shipping.

If interested send me a PM with your address.

Thanks,
Phil

Looks great! And an excellent addition to MUland.

Why don't you refer to it as a lowpass gate, which is what it is?

It' a good question.
...I don't really have a good answer. I tend to think of "lowpass gate or LPG" as a proprietary Buchla term. The 'gate' part being an alternative word for the same thing: a VCA.
I would have preferred LPG instead of CdS (cadmium sulfide) but wasn't sure if that would be appropriate.

No problem - you don't need a serious answer! You can call it what you want, of course.

I'm sure it'll be a popular item, whatever you call it. I've got 4 fairly similar units in my synth, and a few find themselves into most patches.

Looks great. I'm definitely going to grab one of these.

Phil does some quality work. I have the LFO 2 & Delta VCF from MegaOhm and they're some of the nicest modules in my system. I can't wait to get my hands on this one...

+1
I have 2 Deltas and give big props to Phil for quality, service and reasonable prices. Multiple power headers are a big plus too. A great addition to MU land. I love Vactrols!! Unfortunately all my money is going into an unplugged 'drum set' right now for my live trio... be back in modular-spending land in a month or two I hope.

If I hadn't just bought the Thomas White MOTM version, I would have bought this for sure. This module looks and sounds great!

Looks great as always. What's the LP1 and LP2 switch for?

Thanks, Slovo.

The LP2, LP1, VCA switch selects the module response.
LP1 is a single pole VCF response. The original and clones of the LPG label this response as 'Both'.

Here's a couple samples to illustrate (the switch states are indicated by the sample names):

LP1 response first followed by LP2 response with no resonance.

Very cool! :hyper:

On the web page though the module image isn't working, maybe you are changing out the picture at the moment? Source code shows it as src="images/CdSfrontDUMMIE.jpg"

Also, with the pages for your other modules, you see the image of the front panel starting at the top of the page (nice), but it looks like the CdS image wont be seen until you scroll down.
