[IC] Magnum MD100 solder paste dispenser group buy #4

Post by synchromesh »

Updates:

2017-08-08 Happy 808 Day! I have started a list of names of people who have expressed interest in an MD100. If this hits 20 I'll probably do another run.

2017-06-05 And we're done! All packages have been shipped, and the tracking numbers are on the spreadsheet.

2017-06-02 My fulfilment team is hard at work packaging the MD100s & dispensing needles. We'll finish off the packaging & postage over the weekend and then I'll deliver them to the Post Office on Monday morning.

Thanks again for everyone's patience! There are currently six spares still available.

2017-05-18 I have received the MD100s; I've been largely out of action for the last couple of weeks with health issues but I'm getting back into the work again now. I aim to have all the units sent out early next week. Thanks to everyone for their patience. There are still spares available if anyone else would like one.

2017-04-25 The units are now on their way to me. Once I've paid the VAT etc. and received the shipment I can start sending them out. At this point I have eight spare units and two unpaid orders.

2017-03-23 The funds for the MD100 order are now on their way to South Africa. Thanks to everyone who has paid, at this point that only leaves GryphonP3, jsu and "Ryan Linden" yet to pay. I am getting some spares if anyone still wants in.

2017-03-09 The run has started and payments are being accepted.

The price per unit is £35 (for the UK) or €41 (everywhere else). Postage to the UK & EU is included. Postage to North America and the rest of the world is €12.

UK postage is "signed for 1st class". EU & RoW postage is tracked and/or signed for (depending on what's available).

So if you're in the UK, please pay £35 via PayPal Goods & Services to john@johnp.net.
If you're in the EU, please pay €41 via PayPal Goods & Services to john@ngake.net.
If you're anywhere else, please pay €53 via PayPal Goods & Services to john@ngake.net.

Thanks for everyone's patience, and let's do this!

If anyone has any questions, just let me know.

2017-01-18 Since this is moving pretty slowly (16 orders so far), I'll bring the threshold down to 20 units.

2016-12-04 I've prepared the spreadsheet to collect names for a third run. I'll go ahead if/when I get orders for 30 units.

2016-11-15 And we're all done. All units are in the post and all tracking numbers are on the spreadsheet. Apologies for not posting more updates here. I hope everyone finds their MD100s to be useful! I don't think I'll be doing another run, though.

2016-09-19 I have 13 orders for the second run, so I'm "officially" opening it and will close it next Monday the 26th of September. Please spread the word! I'll run it the same as last time, so I'll order some more dispensing needles and bundle those again.

I'll need to have received payment before I can place the order, so if people could PayPal their funds through by Monday that would be great. I've fixed the prices at £34 (to john@johnp.net) and €39 (to john@ngake.net). That should hopefully cover postage from here in the UK to wherever you are; it did last time, anyway.

2016-08-31 The first run has completed successfully, and everyone seems pretty happy with the MD100. Some people have indicated they would still like to get one so I've started collecting names for another run. If you would like a unit please go to the spreadsheet and add your details. If/when it looks like we'll hit 20 orders I'll start collecting funds.

2016-07-12 OK, I have 18 (mostly) pre-paid orders so I'm going to go with that. I have contacted Magnum to place the order. I have also ordered the needles from AliExpress.

The original pitch:

Hi all, I've been adding SMT PCBs to my backlog and I've been looking for useful tools for SMT assembly. I know that you don't have to use solder paste, but I'm keen to give it a go (again - last time I did this was in 1995).

Anyway, I came across the Magnum MD100 solder paste dispenser. It looks to me like pretty good value for money, but the shipping from South Africa to the UK is pretty steep. So I'm taking orders and deposits and then I'll bring a few over and distribute them to people who aren't too far from me here in sunny Norfolk.

I've been running this on F******k for a week or so and I have a bunch of people who have already paid, so I thought I'd just drop it in here over the weekend and see if anyone wanted to join in.

I have set up a Google Docs spreadsheet with the prices (calculated from the current post-Brexit exchange rates) - currently it's about £34 or €40. This should include everything except postage from the UK. I will send out PayPal invoices for the balance once I've received the order and worked out the postage. I'll post to the UK, EU and North America - anywhere else, please contact me first. Pay when you're ready, and I'll place the order on Monday the 11th of July.

All the details should be on the spreadsheet. There's a second page that shows a breakdown of the price(s).

I will be checking this thread over the weekend, but please just go ahead and add yourself to the spreadsheet and pay the deposit as soon as you're ready. I'm hoping to keep this fairly short and sweet.

I'm going to get some dispensing needles from AliExpress as well.

If anyone has any comments or feedback, that would be great. Cheers!

OK, I'm going to place the order for this today or tomorrow, so if anyone else wants in, do it now!

Here's the link again: Google Docs spreadsheet

Just fill in your name, your desired quantity and select your region, then make a PayPal payment for the amount shown.

Just a tip for people using these:
Warm up you solder paste 1st to get it nice & runny. I just keep the container in my pocket for an hour, thats usually good enough

There are a few spares, so if you add your name to the spreadsheet & PayPal me the appropriate amount you can still get one. Note that if you're outside the UK/EU you'll need to pay extra for shipping (exact amount TBD but I think it'll be e.g. about €7 to the USA).

not exactly on the same subject - but I found and bought a motorized paste dispenser from https://mencinger.biz/store.ehtml/produ ... enser.html , and it works incredibly well. Good support from the man who produced it, and well thought-through device.

Another take on a stepper motor driven unit can be found on Tindie: https://www.tindie.com/products/DanM/dm-dispenser-for-solder-pastes-and-adhesives/?pt=full_prod_search
It also has a foot switch available, provisions for mounting on a CNC machine for auto-dispensing on PCBs, and a SMD pickup mode.

Wow, that does look pretty cool! If I ever get my 3D printer assembled & running, I'll definitely consider getting one of these.

Put my name on the list. Should I pay now, or wait to see if the order threshold is met? Thx.

I don't know your name... Please try adding yourself to the spreadsheet and let me know if you have any problems.

I'm just collecting names ATM; if/when we hit 30 orders then I'll ask for payment.

Cheers!

Added myself to the spreadsheet, do I need to contact you as well? My name is similar to my muff's handle.
