[CLOSED] Jasper Knobs Group Buy (Cliff K21)

Post by duff » Wed Feb 17, 2016 3:23 am

In anticipation of another Jasper run I am going to run another knobs group buy.

CLOSED

Image

* Exactly which knobs you want depends on which pots and switches you have. 1/4" screw fixing should cover all bases, but these are more expensive.
* The switched pots included with the PCB are 1/4" D shaft.
* The switches vary between D-Shaft and round shaft depending on which ones you go for and where you purchase from.

We have enough interest to hit the 40 person price point.

I am offering 3 kits:
Kit A : (18 CL178887 , 9 CL178886 , 27 CL1772) : £17.50 (@20 people) £14.00 (@40 people)
-- 9 x D shaft - 3 x switched knobs from Jason & 6 x Alpha switches from rapid and 18 x 1/4" screw - Pots

Kit B : (24 CL178887 , 3 CL178886 , 27 CL1772) : £19 (@20 people) £15.50 (@40 people)
-- 3 x D shaft - switched knobs from Jason and 24 x 1/4" screw - 6 x Alpha switches from mouser & 18 x 1/4" screw - Pots

Kit C : (27 CL178887 , 27 CL1772) : £19.75 (@20 people) £16.25 (@40 people)
-- 27 x 1/4" screw - should fit anything - safe option

Postage and packing
UK - £4
EU - £5
US - £6

Prices and lead time have been confirmed.

Note: If people are happy to use PayPal friends and family then the prices are as above. If not I'm afraid you'll have to add the fees on which is ~ £1.

I'll get in touch when I figure out which rotary switches I'm using.

Do you have a closing date, and is there a deadline for payment?

Thanks for organising this! :tu:

Jason hopes to start sending out the PCBs at the beginning of March so this may be short and sharp. I'll update the first post when I have a better idea of how long we have.

This all depends when Cliff sends out the knobs. 8-)

For reference, the Alpha rotary switches from Rapid are 1/4" D shaped, like the Omeg pots I'm supplying.

These will work fine with the screw fit 1/4" knobs as well if you wish to standardise on a single type. The Alpha pots (16mm and 9mm) from Musikding and Smallbear are all 1/4" round shaft.

Indeed, I'd rather hold off until I have everything else...

Too early to buy something like this, until you know exactly what style shafts you'll be using.

As Jason mentioned both Musikding and Smallbear are all 1/4" round shaft. I have 1/4" round shaft pots on the way from Tayda. Hence your choices probably aren't that wide unless you can find a source of 6mm splined or 1/4" D shaft pots.

Basically, you can save a couple of quid if you know you need D shafts for the switches by going with KIT A. Alternatively you could plump for KIT B in the knowledge that at least the switches supplied by Jason are D shaft. I'll look at adding a KIT C that is all screw fix @ about £19.75 - this is the safe option since 1/4" screw fix should work for everything.

I am open to changing the timing, but I am assuming most will want PCB and Knobs sent together to maximise savings and that this all happens at the earliest opportunity.

I'm not sure if I made it to the list for the switched pots, so I may have to source my own - who knows what I'll get. I'll have to hold off until the PCB/extras arrive until I know more.

I'll definitely be in for the group buy once it arrives and I know what I need, but not wanting to buy blindly ;)

I've updated the first post to add a Kit C option and request people to let me know if they would prefer to have it sent with the PCBs or provide an address to post direct.

Ok, the popularity of Kit B means we will need a few more takers than initially envisaged to reach the minimum quantity on the D shafts but that hopefully shouldn't be a problem.

The general consensus is for people to have their knobs sent out with their PCBs and other bits. Hence the current plan would be to let this run until the 23rd (just under a week) and then put the order in. That hopefully means I can receive them from Cliff, bag them up, and then forward them onto Jason to add to the packages he hopes to send out in early March.

I'm new to doing group buys so if anyone thinks that this is a silly plan feel free to shout.

It would definitely help if the various pot/switch options/suppliers were identified first (if they haven't already been somewhere!) so that we can make that choice first. Otherwise we're doing this in reverse order...

The BOM identifies pots and switch types, models, suppliers and also provides links to the products in said suppliers online stores.

A summary of the BOM plus what others have stated is below:
3 x Switched pots - 1/4" D shafts if you are getting the Jason supplied Omeg ECO16 DPST
18 x 16mm alpha vert PCB mount pots (solder lug will also work) - Jason stated earlier that these are 1/4" Round Shaft if you use smallbear or musikding as linked from the BOM. Tadya also stocks 1/4" round shaft (of most values, possibly a couple are 1/4" spline)
6 x switches - The alphas I got from Rapid are 1/4" D. Alphas from Mouser are reported to be 1/4" round. Lorins I haven't looked at because they were going to work out at twice the price.
2 x trimmer pots - not expected to be knobbed hence not covered by the Kits

Yeah, I physically double checked them... The Alpha switches from Mouser linked in the BOM are round shaft. Desc on the pack is "2POLE 6POS RND SHAFT"

They are quite stiff, so I hope the knob doesn't slip. However, note that the shaft is plastic, so the set screw might bite in to grip.

It also appears the only D shaft version at mouser is a solder lug.
