The Mellotron and me 1996

After nearly 20 years of making my little pieces of music, I had gained the confidence that it was time that my music was made suitable for general consumption and therefore available on Cd !
With the advent of that technology at home, I started releasing albums in 1998.

[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1051726957 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]

This first Seramide album was a a mix of styles but mainly with a tribal, reggae sort of feel dashed with spacey synths and funky guitar.
Lotushead was released concurrently with the first Shamasi album Into the Popol Vuh (see below)

I didn't start playing till I was 21 in 1978.
So i bought a bunch of synths (Jupiter 8, RS 09 and a Boss DR 55 ) and started making music. I'd never written music before !
This is what happened with my music at this time and these places in my life.

New Works Vol 2 Melbourne 1982-85 Best of Album now out !
( see orig post )

This period saw big changes. Firstly I sold the DR55 for a Tr 606 and eventually the Yamaha Rx11.
Sold the Rhodes and the Rs09 and got one of the first DX7's ..this changed my world completely !
I also got a Commodore 64 running a SCI Model 64 software sequencer..the first time I had used sequencing..before that everything was hand played.
As the JP8 was in the band truck a lot, I ended up with SCI T8 synth which with the DX's, became my mainstay.
By early1985 the other big revolution occurred..the Mirage Sampler.
This opened a whole new world of sound and songwriting for me and gave me access to instruments that I only dreamed about.

Cheers

New Johannes Nijmo Nijman "Zippahead" album avail for free download now !

This album is all about tops and bottoms !

I'm labelling this as my Modular Merry Melodies as it contains tracks from the last few years that have been done entirely on my Dotcom, Motm and Rob Hordijk Modular synths which play the major musical roll with added melodies from the Modulars and other synths.

The bottoms are the original improvised one take Modular output which provides the basis of each track and the tops are one track improvised melodies (sometimes using other synths) which were inspired from the bottoms !

The music traverses from the slow Afghani desert shimmer of Ouruzgan to the fast paced inner city vibe of Zippahead via TV themes (Transitions) and emotional journeys such as Dolphin Sands (dedicated to the passing of my father) and the electronic Native Indian dervish of Totem.

But in all of this there are melodies and composition ..these are not just Modular blips and beeps...please listen and enjoy !

Bump..I've been working on my double vinyl Prog album for the last 8 months.
It is in the near mix stage ATM ( I'm not doing the mix) and then mastered to double vinyl by Don Bartley @ Benchmark Mastering in Sydney.

Once I've done all this, I'll get back to the electronic stuff. :)

Cheers
