Which Euro envelopes sound like Roland (System 100)?

Cwejman, Doepfer, Erica, MakeNoise, Mutable instruments, TipTop Audio, Analogue Solutions, and much more! The world’s most popular format.
Be sure to look into MANUFACTURER SUB-FORA as well..

Which Euro envelopes sound like Roland (System 100)?

Post by Entrainer »

Inspired by the filter thread, I thought I'd ask a question that's been causing slight loss of sleep and rapid browsing of the internets...

I'm looking for a great envelope to round out my system. I'm kind of particular, in that I really, really love the round sound of the System 100's envelope.

I read online that the MFB Dual ADSR is more angular than the Roland.

I'm thinking that the Cwejman CTG-VC may be the a good choice because of the adjustable decay slope.

It's a pretty expensive experiment though. Has anyone used the CTG-VC? Any other options?

thx-

Cwejman ADSR-VC2 is the solution for this job! :sb:

If your system doesn't sound good enough, you haven't spent enough

I know that the Analogue Solutions EG-02 is directly based on the System 100 M-140 module (2ENV-LFO).
I am pretty sure that the EG-01 and Vostok envelope are also based on the same schematics. :despair:

Personaly i didnt really like the envelopes on the EG-02 that much, ended up getting far better use out of my Cwejman ADSR-VC2.

Two votes for the ADSR-VC2. Looks like a "better" bargain than the CTG-VC... two envelopes for the price of one.

Chinard-

The dissing of the EG-02 has made you fair game. You have been designated a SP. Please report to your auditor for ethics check.

If you're looking for the percussive arpeggiator sound of the Jupiter 4 or Jupiter 8, the ADSR-VC2 brings it.

I wouldn't want it as my *only* envelope, but it does the short end of the spectrum better than anything else I've used.

I love my ADSR-VC2 but, if I understand you right, you actually want something sluggish and not so snappy.

Try Doepfer's A-141 :hide: reminds me a lot of the envelopes on my Rolands.

Edit: what am I thinking of? Get the CTG-VC. It's fantastic.

@Stretta: your Cwejman videos were what turned me on to the ADSR-VC2, thanks! I know you have often referred to the fact that they are extremely percussive. At some stage, Wowa revised ADSR-VC2. This affected the maximum manual time and changed the VC to summing inputs. If you have a rev.1 (copper back-plate, coloured rather than clear/ bright LEDs), I think this can be changed.

Are there any Euro envelopes other than Cwejman CTG-CV which let you hold the peak of the attack before going to the decay section?

MFB dual adsr has a hold phase between attack and decay if that is what you are asking

Imo the envelopes of the system 100 are the weak point of the synth. They are not realy snappy and dynamic at all. I have 2x (101+102)

I do have RS60 and A-143-2 envelopes. I use them all the time together with my system 100 instead of the internal envelopes.

If you want less snappy envelopes, turn up the attack a bit.

My point exactly.

If you want 'vintage' or 'fat', you want a soft, rounded envelope.
