"Floating ring" cable

Post by Rynoise »

Hey there everyone,
finally getting into the world of modular. Current setup is a Korg MS-20 Mini and a Flight of Harmony IMP. It's amazing the range of sounds I'm already getting from these few bits. Now for my question...
I've also got a MOTU Ultralite audio interface. I was reading somewhere that I could output control voltages with it using supercollider or puredata, but to do so I'd need to buy floating ring cables. Happened to be at Radio Shack the other day, and noticed they had 1/4" TRS to 1/8" TS cables. Are these the same thing?
Thanks from a noob!

You can find a bunch of stuff about hooking up the MOTU on the Expert Sleepers site along with the cable you're looking for here: http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/accessories.html

i just bought a few stereo 1/4" TRS to left/right mono 1/4" TS adapters on amazon. this allows the ring to 'float' while using your standard 1/4" TS cables. the added bonus is you can get an inverted signal on the floated ring cable.

The kind of cables I use on my MOTU are insert cables; TRS quarter to two TS cables, one cable gives me the pos cv and the other a neg version. :tu:
