[Project] Random Looping Sequencer / Turing Machine
Moderators: Kent, Joe., luketeaford
Thanks Tombola,
I am planning to do a dual module, so I may end up doing something like mounting two of these to a perf-board, mounting that to a bracket, and then doing wire jumpers to the front panel components. I won't be able to do the twinkly lights, but I think I can live without them.

Well, this looks like a pretty low-cost build anyway. Surely there must be some way we could redesign it so the shift registers are implemented with 8 VactrolsUnfortunately there aren't really any economies of scale

I've just ordered 20 pcbs. I'll probably use 2 and keep another 2, so the rest are available. I'm in central USA, so the overseas folks should probably use the other group buy. I'm not trying to step on the toes of anyone who might also be doing a buy of these pcbs, so I'll sell them to anyone for the cost of the pcb and basic shipping, so around 2.25 per pcb and the cost of a padded envelope and a stamp - probably the cheapest pcb you'll buy for a while! PM me if interested. If there's a huge response (probably not) I might make another order.

Ok folks, all the ones in my little run of 20 boards have been spoken for. I'll let you all know when I get them. I'd rather not accept any payments until I actually have these things here in my immediate physical presence. I'm new to the group buy organizer thing, and I've never dealt with pcbs or this company before, so I need to see how it works out before deciding to do another run of them.
Thanks Tombola for making all this possible!

My thoughts so far:Spandex wrote:Great docs too. Did you have any thoughts about what the expansion header could be used for? I was just thinking about random looping gate sequences.
1. Random (but repeating) gates
2. Random triggers via http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgs24_ ... igger.html
3. Buffer some of of the data lines, then run them through slider potentiometers, then sum them back together, to make a mini-Klee. Essentially a user configurable D/A converter. I think many sliders are dual gang, so you could have two mirrored outputs.
4. Add more D/A converters, being fed from different points in the loop, to create canon / Analog Shift Register effects (might require a bit more calibration than I'd like)
Just a shame I ended up using such a weird shaped expansion header - I didn't want to run those 8xdata lines anywhere else around the PCB.
Ok, i ordered 10 of these as well so if your in the states and want one i'll be selling 7.
Pm me and when the boards show up will figure out how to square up.
Also, like Sduck i'll sell them for the cost and a couple bucks for postage and a mailer.
EDIT:
2 reserved for Patchdub
2 reserved for Mikecameron
2 reserved for max
1 reserved for bennybones

I have ordered 10 PCBS.
If you are in Australia, let me know if you are keen. So far there are 6 that are unspoken for.
EDIT They are all spoken for

I ordered 20 of these (a dozen are spoken for in case anyone wants some here in USA), and had the same problem with the order. I looked at the build docs and available photos and couldn't see anything remotely resembling rectangular holes so I told them the circles were correct. They replied with an ok late last night so the order progresses. Pretty exciting. Thank you for sharing this with us, Tombola.

Yes, I only posted this after having sent those exact gerbers (minus one screenprint layer change), waiting 3 weeks and building the resulting board.
I find it hard to visualise ITead studio - might be two guys in a bedroom, might be a whole factory - although the order numbers are pretty low and don't go up very fast. There's an nice clip in their blog of how they do these proto orders, panelled together into bigger batches. I think (from a half-remembered comment somewhere) that they use the same fab house as seeedstudio - the same specifications etc.
The curious thing about this rectangular hole thing is that a rectangular hole would probably make sense in that position - I guess somewhere in the ('official') library that I used is a left over rectangular hole layer from an earlier version.

This helped me. thx!limpmeat wrote:So...
I had one issue with submitting the PCB artwork with Itead studios. They were confused as to whether the holes below are circular or rectangular. After talking to Tombola, he confirmed they are circular. Hope this helps someone.
I ordered 10 of the pcb. i have 4-5 plus, i will let you know if they are available. I'm in europe, but if you pay the postage, doesn't matter where you are.

I'm ordering 10 pcbs tonight and I've been working on a panel for my diy case. Here's my ruff draft so far.

I may add some features before completing my panel layout.
This is going to be a fun project. Thanks for sharing Tombola!
