Thank you! Looks like I’ll wait a bit until further demos appear. Natural gate has been on my wishlist for awhile, but this dxg seems like a good deal. I havent checked out doepfer lpg, will do some research more.starthief wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 12:38 pm I am guessing it's not vactrol-based. Even if not for RoHS issues, matching vactrols in stereo would be a massive hassle and expense (unless maybe they have built a robot to test and sort them).
NG is 12HP, dual mono, offers different attack shapes, control over release time and the strength of the "ping", and a manual slider to open it -- very playable overall, encouraging tweaking. In terms of sound I find it rolls off a bit more high end than some others I've tried, and sounds just a little "sweeter" to me than most. (But with some settings I had almost similar results to a Doepfer LPG that was CV-controlled.)Arcaneblut wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 12:07 pm Judging from the vid, how does it compare to natural gate?
DXG is 8HP, dual stereo with what seems to be a mix output which could be convenient. But there's less control onboard.
It's hard to compare sound without running the same input through both of them side by side and trying to match envelopes. Personally I'm sticking with my NG and don't need another LPG.

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
With the Doepfer you are really playing the vactrol lottery. The one I had was basically unusable at the ping input (for my tastes) and required an external envelope.

how can something that was announced 30 mins ago already be on page 3 ????
Also want to know if it does vactrol or not ...

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
For those of us with a stereo Make Noise Shared System, this is a godsend.
Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
Instabuy for me, should compliment the NG well. I was thinking about SSG for that role but this seems way more convenient for my use case.

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
I'm excited to hear the demos - if it's a simulated vactrol replacement it will be interesting to compare to the sounds of older designs.
I have a 2022 OptoMix and this feels like a good companion.

Re: 2024 New Make Noise Module
It’s a DUAL stereo LPG
At the first look I thought bah, but that’s twice

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
Seems like it would be a must have for anyone who has the XPO
Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
looks really great. wondering if taking the ch 2 out removes it from the mix

obviously I was checking to see who was paying attention rather than trying to post during a work meeting

This looks awesome!
Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
I thought I had completed my Make Noise stereo system. But alas, another module to add! This is going to be awesome for my XPO and Spectraphon.
Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
I am building a new Shared system, can this be used instead of an Optomix?

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
I park two Optomixes next to XPO and prefer having the extra control over things, but this would be an economical way to add some extra LPGs to the outputs for sure. XPO with Xpan and a bunch of LPGs is a force of nature.

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
Spotted a black & gold LXD in the video, too. I've only ever seen those in silver so I'm guessing that means the LXD is finally back in production.
Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
There were Black and Gold ones in the System Cartesian that had telHARMONIC as well.
But I saw some people saying they weren't discontinued and we're expected to make a comeback.
Wouldn't be shocked if the new ones were black and gold.

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
The a small number of LXDs showed up in stock at Analogue Haven late last year. I was never sure if it was a box found way way down in the basement or a sample run testing whether to bring them back.
edit: just to be clear, I believe these were silver. MN only makes its silver modules in silver, with sole exceptions for B&G prebuilt systems.

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
It is interesting but at the same time I am super confused.
Is it a vactrol-based LPG or is it more like Dynamix? If so, how did they resolve the issue of vactrol pairing, so that the vactrols in pair for stereo have similar response curve? I am aware that main reason that QMMG got discontinued. It is tedious, time consuming and a lot of wasted unsuitable vactrol left-overs.

Still in production. I got one from Control Voltage in November or December.

Sorry, I was referring to silver. Got my silver at a shop other than AH, so those weren't a 'box in the basement' find.mosorensen wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 3:44 pm

Anyhow, off-topic I suppose

Sounds great in the YouTube video! Vactrols are cool but not as cool as audio rate modulation if that's possible. Love the aux ins like most other MN vcas have!

Re: Make Noise DXG - Dual Stereo Gate
Vactorals.. I'm guessing maybe none? Will be interesting how this lives up to other LPGs.
