^ i guess a quantizer is more expensive than what you mention - i didnt think about it like that :-)

I frequently use sample and hold with sequencers, so that the voltage only changes on steps with active gates. Sometimes the gate occurs like, when the CV sequencer is transiting from one voltage to another and so the sequence ends up sounding wrong. In these cases I use a gate delay to make sure that the sample and hold is triggered a little later, when the voltage from the CV sequencer is at the target voltage. It might be cool if something like that were built into the sample and hold.

Perhaps there could be a threshold for 'movement' which would make the module wait until the incoming voltage is stable enough to be sampled. If this were on a variable control, I bet it could have more creative uses when sending noiser or smoothly varying signals to the input.

Potch isnt important for me ... is it possible to just have an extremely primitive 12tone quantizer onboard that can be switched on if desired?

Would it be possible to include a comparator with threshold control and a gate output. Combined with S&H I see this is a great bonus feature. Set the threshold which follows the S&H CV output and fires a gate when exceeded.
Anything can be complicated, simplicity is hard.

was looking at the PRC2B Noise Crusher, it seems like an interesting and unique design. something identical to a noise crusher ?

How many PRC2B were made? That seems to be the one that everyone's after. (Me included!)

Maybe 50?
I thought I was about done with a new version (very similar) - even got panels done - but... still had issues which felt too ARGH for me to complete/release

My two cents, late to the game:

* I tend to use S/H as variables in clocked recursive generative computation (chaotic pattern generators, often involving wavefolders in the feedback path, often controlled by joystick for gestural control), where precision is not super-important, as I'd use a quantizer if that was needed anywaay. For this use, I'd really appreciate a triple or quad basic S/H module in 1FW, with no fancy functions, just in/out/gate for each one. Sometimes we use noise as input, sure, but just as often something else, so for me, noise source is not necessary.

* I love how the Noise Crusher is so compact with a CV-able vco and switchable inputs etc. A truly patch-programmable module, Serge-style, and I really love it. Perfect combo. So, please, just making that one again would also be super!

These two thoughts point in different directions, yes, but why not both? Maybe one could be a basic bread-and-butter multi-S/H module (perhaps triple plus three colors of noise, that should fit, or a quad without noise), and the other a higher-precision module with vco clock and noise, basically a NoiseCrusher2.

+1 to everything otoskope said.

I also think a basic S&H and VC slew combo module would be tight.

So.. this is what I've been slowly working on: NSH
Dual Sample & Hold with White/Filtered Noise
IMG_20220322_104655.jpg
It is working well EXCEPT for voltage droop when clocking stops.
It is always a balance of speed.. the values I'm using allow fast & accurate sampling, but...

Still wondering if I should try adding an extra sampling stage to each side which could have larger values (fast sampling stage followed by slow stage)..

Great news! Dual is good. I'd need at least two of these :)

If you add a second stage, would that mean a fast/slow switch per side?

No, I'm trying to have something that will cover a good range without switching (it had also crossed my mind to add jumpers on the back)

:hmm: Are there any hybrid analog/digital S&H out there?
I mean digitizing one sample of the source value in a latch to eliminate the sag. For most uses it would be overkill but...
