Run your sine/tri LFO out, through a wavefolder. Be amazed at the complex shapes.
Then mix two sine/tri from two time related LFOs, into a wavefolder. Yes, awesome.

I use a Doepfer A-138M Matrix Mixer for building odd LFO waves. Also use the A-135-1 VC Mixer (four channels of voltage controlled mixing). The Harvestman Malgorithm can do some nice things to cv. Especially if used lightly.

This! Chain Reactor is LFO mayhem. Unfortunately it's out of production but there's one on Reverb. I have 2.

I think logic is a little more interesting-- you can use the greatest (MAX/OR) or lowest (MIN/AND) voltage available. It is a little bit like making a completely new shape instead of mixing two shapes together.
+1 for this. If you take two LFOs A and B and run them through logic you can get interesting CV pulses of different lengths and patterns. Use them to trigger an EG/LPG or open a VCA. Try A AND B, A OR B, A XOR B, they sound a bit different. The LFOs should be at different rates of course. Try wiggling the rates, they can be interesting when they’re similar but not the same. You can use pulse shapes or triangle or sine, etc - it shouldn’t matter because logic contains a comparator to produce the true/false output pulses.

That's it I'm getting a wavefolder to partner with my Batumi. Sounds like fun. :guinness:

Or with analog style logic it's the lowest or highest of whatever voltages are input (obviously it's pulses with squares but a completely new shape with anything else)

And if that can't be found, maybe a Pittsburgh Bender. It is also pretty nuts.

Use something other than an LFO as an LFO. There are some interesting function generators or even envelope generators out there that can do interesting modulation duties.

I've been fooling with this one recently, but it is a build-it-yourself thing:

Haven´t looked into that one, thanks!
I recently saw a CR in the facebook groups also, might be the same as on reverb tho. Tempted to get it myself, as OBVIOUSLY two CR´s is better.. :nana:

Can anyone recommend a logic module that would work well for this application? I have a Maths and other DC coupled mixers, could I use more logic in a small setup? The Dual Logic by synthcube looks cool but I'm not great with a soldering iron. The Tool Box by Steady State Fate also looks like a contender. A swiss army knife module is pretty tempting.

Well, Maths contains some logic already I understand, so maybe you don’t need anything else? I got the Doepfer A-166 dual logic and the Ladik B-011 flip flop, these are great building blocks. Another option is Disting Mk4 with its MIN/MAX algorithm, this is what luketeaford described above ^ as analogue logic - making new waveforms by applying floor or ceiling to regular LFO shapes. There are lots of options, check out Intellijel Plog, Evaton CLX, RYO and Castle among others. Other wigglers will comment I’m sure.

Check out Klavis Logica XT, lots of logic in a nice, small package. Cheap too imo, saw it at 89 uk pounds (discounted though) brand new.

Joranalogue's compare 2 is a very interesting module as well, combine it with a s/t&h module, and a waveshaper there can be many possibilities!

Yes, Maths OR is the same as MAX (except that it ignores negative voltages). You can patch AND (MIN) with Maths too.

I have a Doepfer A-166 which works well but I hate it because the jacks are a little loose (apparently this is how it is with older Doepfer modules).

A172 MAX/MIN is what I use when I need to compare more than 2 signals for logic or if I need the negative voltages considered.

Mystic Circuits ANA I don't have yet but it looks to be the leader of the pack for my taste and playing style.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’m starting to see how these could be used to create some interesting audio as well.

Yes, I do have a Batumi. I’ll check out the alt firmware. Is it fiddly to install?
IIRC I struggled with the instruction/guide. I don't know about the process because I was thrown by what I read.

Yes Bender is a 2 channel Chain Reactor. They are progressions of their first module the VILFO, which you may guess is 1 channel of the same beast. I hope they make another iteration. Maybe a 6 channel with wider range of wave shapes or some clock logic/divisions.

Dragonaut, I was able to pick up an older Disting Mk2 second hand. It’s got S&H, MIN/MAX, Wave rectifier, Comparator and Wavefolder. It’s 4HP of usefulness IMO:

The Mk1 is very similar.

Disting is definitely a possibility with all the other great stuff it has. Of course this all begs the question: do I just need a bigger case? Hahaha.
