No need to be amashed donpachi !
That's a very nice totally DIY module you've done here :sb:

Your Dual 555 VCO is one of the sharpest and coolest looking modules that I've seen in quite some time! However, I do have to wonder if it will be difficult to adjust those 2 Big Tuning Pots when each of them are surrounded by 6 banana cables.

Hopefully, this won't turn out to be an issue. Sometimes it is easy to get too hung up on human engineering, and as a result, one can overlook or dismiss a great looking design.
And this is an awesome looking design! :bananaguitar: :yay: :yay: :yay:
I must admit I favored style rather than practicality...and it's euro-sized, so it have to be a bit cramped :hihi:
There's enough space to grab the knob even with all the jack filled...it become difficult when stacking more than 2 banana plugs :ripbanana:
And the tuning pots are really smooth 10-turn, so they're easy to move with just the tip of a finger, so it won't be an issue.
(that's not the most tight design I've done for this set of modules...wait for the quad slope  )

Anyway, here's another one : a Fonitronik PS3100 resonators/X-pan-fade

this is more than awsome! what a great looking design! i LOVE it - and i am not biased by the fact that it is a resonator...

Well I finally "finished" a module this year. I'm just going to to stick with ghetto-etching for a while I think...

Morning, All.

After around ten months of sporadic effort, I've finally finished my VCS3 clone. It's as close to the original (with the usual mods) as I could make it - all NOS components, except for the reverb tank.

That said, I have added quite a lot of extra features, mostly because I used a Ghielmetti 20 x 20 matrix, and thus had extra rows and columns spare... I've added the following:
  • JH's adaptation of the Korg MS20 HADSR
A variation of the CGS utility LFO
    An Oakley MIDI-DAC
Some stuff of my own design to buffer the oscillator and filter VC control lines and to integrate the MIDI bits.
Anyway, here are the pics!

And here a couple of the guts of the beast. The three main boards are all on hinged connectors, so they can be tilted up whilst still plugged in, giving access to the lower boards for debugging. The far end of the boards rest on a removable steel bar, held on with wingnuts.

The lower boards are mounted on a wooden panel that is also hinged, giving access to the front panel wiring.

Please excuse the less-than-pretty wiring; there are so many wires in this thing it was impossible to keep it really neat...

Big thanks to Derek Revell for helping on this! (He gave me his designs in return for etching the boards, and then we collaborated on debugging everything).

Don't apologize for the wiring, the engineering with the hinges is excellent and overall it looks great!

Needs black index markers on the knobs too.
And that damned chrome switch needs to be painted black...and it can only be patched with black patch cords. :headbang:

Thanks - that took me a while to work out: I ended up doing a 3D model of everything in Blender so I could visualise it all before committing to a box and panel design. (Incidentally, Blender is a fantastic program, though it does have a rather steep initial learning curve).

Hopefully I'll have time to put up some samples later...

"Every time I press a black button on the black control panel, a black light lights up black to let me know I've done it! What is this, some kind of galactic hyper-hearse?" (HHGTTG).

Cheradenine: I'm kidding, of course - that module looks killer. Also, I suspect it doesn't show up on radar.

Finest EMS gear service and Music Easel/208 goodies

I'm not a synths dealer and don't know of any cheap Synthi secret market.
I don't offer support for attempts to build clones of EMS equipment.
Please don't ask, thanks.

Too bad I haven't found black LED, otherwise I would have definitly used them

Your VCS4 is a thing of beauty !
Wiring had to be a lot of horrible fun, in that small box
The end result is really amazing in both the realisation and the look !
(well, I would have put black knob and a black pin matrix :hihi:  )

Excellent build - love the styling. Very smart. I'll also be interested in hearing some sounds.

Holy shit, Cormallen, that is some amazing synth DIY right there!

And, your wiring looks fine to me. As long as everything works, and it isn't all noisy and shit, then it's all good.

Can you share a link to which reverb tank you used? And would you mind stating how much the matrix ended up costing with the pins + shipping?

Very nice looking build, and good idea with hinges for the main PCBs.
