Bus board question

Post by sammy123 » Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:50 am

I am looking at your filtered bus boards, but have a compatibility question. I built a larger case for all my Mutable Instrument Modules. It is 9u, 104hp. I decided to use individual/single output 5v and 12v Meanwell ac/dc PSUs instead of the usual triple output RT-65b. I went with 2 LRS-150F-12 and a single LRS-35-5. I wanted to make sure I would never run out of power. Everything is wired up with some passive boards and no issues so far.

The 5v can provide 7A and the 12v can supply 12.5A.

Any issues using one or more of your filtered bus boards in conjunction with a couple unfiltered passive bus boards with this setup?

Here are the direct download links to the spec sheets:

https://www.meanwellusa.com/webapp/prod ... rod=LRS-35

https://www.meanwellusa.com/webapp/prod ... d=LRS-150F

Thank you.

Hey Sammy. I am sorry for the wait but I have good news for you! So. In short, -> if you would go with the preferred combo of PSU solutions you listed and you would use that in conjunction with let's say Filtered Bus Board 2 (https://www.konstantlab.audio/shop/filt ... tribution/) then you will experience no issues at all. They are compatible. One of our customers/users recently used +12V/-12V TDK Lambda in conjunction with our bus boards and had no issues as well. It's quite alike.

As for the use of both filtered and "passive" bus boards together -> I assume you mean combining some of ours with something from another manufacturer/source what you already have inside the case -> then as long as these are built to spec = no issues. It is worth noting though that if there are no protections/filters then these could be a gateway for interference or other elements which can hinder the overall functionality of the whole system.

One tip with your PSU solutions -> Be careful when connecting the output and input if you had not done it already (your solutions are working with 230V - DCV and they have revealed clamps/pins), it is not as easy as using for instance one of our PSU solutions designed especially for eurorack. Be careful when you are manipulating with cables inside the rack as well and use blank/blind panels if there is some leftover space so you, your cat, your family, and your gear are all safe.

Today we have also listed our new PSU for euro -> https://www.konstantlab.audio/shop/hamm ... er-supply/.

It might be a little bit pricier and it does not offer as much output as these non-eurorack PSU solutions do but what you get is 100W, specially designed for eurorack, easy mounting, minimal noise, easier connection/wiring but most importantly safety.

I hope I have answered all your questions in detail. If anything hit me up and I will do everything in my power to clarify further.
