[µTune] velocity through gate out

Post by timoka » Sun Jan 31, 2021 5:46 am

would it be possible to get a variable voltage gate out derived from the midi gate in and the velocity value?

this way no additional channels would be used for velocity, the gate output simply reflects the velocity value as a fixed voltage.
for simple ad envelopes with maths, dusg etc this would be enough!

a long stretch i know, but i always dream of variable voltage trigger and gates

The gate output can not output any voltage, just gate on or gate off.
It would be possible to turn on the gate if the velocity level is above a certain value, but that's it.

ok, well gate out has a certain voltage, 5v i think with the utune? i just thought maybe it's somewhat possible to divide the 0 - 5 V of a gate signal into 127 "steps" and have a "fake" velocity this way. but if i understand you corrently then the physical gate output of the module can't output variable voltages, only binary ones, right? anyway, i had a wild dream

thanks for answering, it's a great module!

Yes that is correct. The gate outputs can output 5V, 12V and even switch trigger, but not arbitrary voltages.
