Pulse outs to trigger DC motors. Help!

Post by jhfollansbee » Sun Apr 25, 2021 6:50 pm

Hi folks, I have been planning a sound installation thing and I was curious if you all would be able to help me figure out how to use the pulse outs of a PB or Rolzer to trigger tiny DC motors that will be performing a variety of tasks. Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you and have a lovely end to your weekend.

I have a Rollz5 instrument that i made DIY, so i do not have experience with other or "real" ciat lonbarde gear.

From my understanding of this realm is that Peter B has kind of established his own standards in the universe of his instruments.
That being said there are lots of warnings about patching CL gear with other gear unless you are confident it will work.
I do have knowledge in electronics and work in the industrial controls field, so my ideas are following some common techniques used in this industry.
like the use of Interposing relays..
this type of system assumes that the out put of one system is not compatible with driving another.
example would be 24v output needs to turn on 120v equipment.

1. use an oscilloscope and look at the trigger outputs from the gear.
2. develop a circuit that will recognize these outputs.
3. use this output to trigger a circuit that will output proper power for your DC motor.

exploring the Koma Elektronik Field Kit might be a good starting point too...
That's the most diabolical looking piece of equipment I've ever seen.

Thinking about this more last night, you could probably find some opto-isolators that could serve this purpose... Or "roll your own" with some LEDs that trigger from the voltage out of the rollz and some LDRs that pass the voltage to the motors.

This would probably be simpler than the initial suggestion.

Maybe take a lookat 4n25's - they have a max out of 30v depending on configuration. and allow this to drive a higher voltage relay for the DC motors.

Maybe I should look into the field kit because I don't know if I have the technical prowess to make this happen.

the field kit could help, but it may not be too difficult either.
just takes some experimentation.
