Great thread--and by great--I mean bad for my wallet. So many cool suggestions. Have an Ellitone Multisynth on the way (thanks Power Mic 3K), and am assembling the parts to build the Recursive Machine (thanks nrrr). I originally got a Lyra-8 for the exact same reasons, but yeah--it's like a large brick. Love it in the studio, though.

I’m thinking 42 HP eurorack with a battery power and Intellijel tetrapad. A case can be the lunchbox from 2hp or a 4ms pod.

Might have to make a little case for these two.

Monome has Norns kit option: https://llllllll.co/t/diy-norns-shield/27638

I couldn't afford the standard one. It's an easy build and will set you back about $250 for everything. I don't have a Grid but it has plenty of functionality by itself. I've been using it a lot during lockdown.

Might be a bit big, but a Lyra 8 might fit the bill (save for the +12V power wall wart). You can get a nice carrying case for it as well.
Ah yes, the Lyra8, my permanent wish list synth. Might indeed be a bit big, but I still want one. Played it a SuperBooth last year and it is sooo expressive and intuitive.
A 'lite' version for traveling perhaps?

You could design a smaller/flatter case for it:

I just ordered this Reloop Tape 2, by the way. Probably the simplest and smallest WAV audio recorder:

It’s a bit more expensive than the cheapest Zoom handheld recorder, but it’s a lot less complex and even more portable. I often carry a small USB audio interface with me on my travels, to connect to my iPhone and record on there, but always disliked the cables and the setup.

And in other news, I started building a travel synth myself, based on the Axoloti platform. I soldered a small shield with with ten knobs and six buttons on the weekend and already created five different patches for it, which I can switch on the device. My goal is to have a bunch of complex synths loaded on there, with lots of intermodulation which I can just explore, without even looking at the little box.

Axoloti with DIN MIDI ports removed to make it even smaller and with pin headers added:

The DIN MIDI part of the PCB can be conveniently snapped off and re-attached with wires later on, if needed. With this config though, I still have stereo audio in & out, headphone out, microSD, USB power, USB MIDI and a USB MIDI Host port, in case I do want to connect some external controllers in the future.

My little knob and button shield, sitting on the pin headers:

I’ll build a little wooden case for it later 8-)

The only issue with the Continuumini is it is ever so slightly too long for most carry on luggage (i.e. roller boards). Mine will fit at an angle in a pinch, but is not optimal for protecting it while optimizing storage space. I guess if you do not travel with clothes or like accessories, then it would not be an issue.
I put mine diagonally in my suitcase in the mailer tube Haken recommended. It also works in a carry on gym bag:
9E081E69-8952-4AD6-8A25-FCA44E6B9029.jpeg
I did have to saw down the length of the tube. There is enough room for me to include a small usb battery and all cables in the tube. Before I sawed it down I also would put a round usb speaker at one end.

Nicely compact! Could you point us towards the location(s) where the synths/projects you want to load onto it can be found? Am thinking about building an Axoloti into an unused controller.

I‘m creating the synth patches myself, so they don‘t exist online yet. The wooden thing is still just a prototype. I already ordered some laser cut acrylic housing parts though and will decide on the final amount of knobs and buttons once those arrive. When I‘m done, I‘ll share the patches and housing vector data :)

There‘s also a thread on the Axoloti forums:

Gotcha. :)

P.s. love your attitude to sharing and the amount of info provided! :tu:
P.p.s. If there are some quickstart guides to Axoloti coding and/or template sharing pages plz do share, the Axoloti site is a bit of a jungle to the uninitiated.

I own a synthi. A REAL one and the vcs3 app for the iPad is really close .
Thank you! I do have an iPad loaded with music apps, but sometimes I use that thing all day and want to get away from it in the evening.

I understand for the iPad, if you use it often during the day. But nothing prevents you from downloading the IVSC3 which, as has been pointed out in particular by sleestack808, is really excellent. I also had an Ems Synthi AKS for 13 years, and if I can't find the dynamics of the hardware machine, I find the spirit. And above all, as we can continually change the patches, we take off on trips with sound and we quickly forget that we are using an iPad.
Otherwise, in mobility besides the Ipad (Mini and Pro), I sometimes take with me my Roli Block and the Neutron Behringer. With the matrix of the latter I have enough to take care of to find interesting patches.

Oh definitely. I've owned the iVCS3 App since it was released as well and it's awesome :) But yeah, really looking to get away from the screen.

The Akso is cool!

On the Axoloti you can break the DIN MIDI PCB off the main Core and also exchange the large 1/4“ sockets for 3.5mm ones. This makes it nicely small too. See here: http://community.axoloti.com/t/axoloti- ... nth/6839/4

A lot of mp3 players also let you record in ,wav, but I don't know how many have a line input jack.

It's kind of cool, too bad it doesn't have a more complicated level meter, if those LEDs are even used for that.
