Yeah, I know all about it, huge taxes here as well.
The SH-2 just feels like a coherent instrument. The second VCO does make it a little richer sounding, but the main point for me is that you get more complex tones by mixing the VCOs and sub. It's also got a sine wave on one of the VCOs.
a couple months ago I tried a SH-1000, that is a synth that I never care of before...and the filter catched my ears...here says that it´s a diode ladder one, similar (in description at least) to the SH-5...so maybe this new Roland module (the 505) could be an more interesting add on than a whole synth
I did own an SH-1000 a few years back, and liked its sound a lot. I think the SH-5 sounds similar, though I've never had them side by side so I haven't been able to compare.
To my ears, the SH-5, SH-1000 and System-100 belong to the same tonal "family", whereas the SH-09/1/2/7 / System-100M /GR-500 belong to a different family.
The 505 sounds like a good choice if it's based on the SH-5 filter.
