Re: McCartney II

I love that video. The key player is Ron Mael of Sparks. I like Paul on Bass. They're all homages to someone. I see Buddy Holly too. Some of the others I don't get... I bit of a slap back at Lennon's post-Beatles criticism too; "The Plastic Macs", as I understand it. Hall and oats; I think front st...

Re: McCartney II

"Coming Up" sounds a lot McCartney's take on a Talking Heads style tune. And a couple of the people Paul plays in the video look kind of familiar, like the keyboard player.

Re: French Artist from 70's with similar vibe to BOC?

The Parks Canada commercial music was composed by the late Alain Clavier. Frankly I wonder if he wasn't trying to channel Brian Eno, because it sounds a lot like an outtake from Eno's Music For Films. (I often wondered about the choice of music years ago, because you'd think it would keep some peopl...

Re: I just died laughing when I found this

Yep, Brilliant Pebbles(named after a ballistic missile defense proposal) is literally nonsense. It's pieces of rock in a bag you tape to parts of your audio system to make it sound better. Which it can't, because there is no physical way it can.

Not just an audiophile thing. It's creeping into the world of guitars too.

Re: Anyone notice PC has all Behringer on sale?

It will be interesting to see what this means for the Canadian market. I suspect the result will be Behringer dealing strictly through Amazon.ca, and ceasing sales through Canada's national music retail chain Long and McQuade.

I wonder how many of these will get flipped fairly quickly when buyers realise there's no "Press here for Pink Floyd/Brian Eno/Tangerine Dream" button.

Apparently there's also a Circuit Tracks on the way. Supposedly has 2 synth tracks, 4 drum tracks, and 2 MIDI tracks.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned old guitar multieffects pedals. Not always the easiest to tweak live, it depends on the model. But you can find them dirt cheap.

Yeah, in the end if the prices are too high stuff won't sell. And if you're buying high price vintage gear you'd better know the market and the equipment, or you will end up paying more than you should, or at worst get ripped off.

Re: Yamaha FVX-1, old 8OP FM-Synth

I'm pretty sure there's other stuff like this most of us don't know about because it was marketed to organ players, and not synth players and other pop/rock/electronic music makers. There was a brief period when Wersi was trying to market stuff in the US with ads in Keyboard Magazine, but it musn't ...

+48 V is for phantom power of condenser microphones. The jack above the XLRs is probably for a separate +48 V power supply.

Moog Audio has it up for pre order at $399.99 Canadian. Right now it's the same price as the Model Samples. Beatstep Pro is $349.99, and Keystep Pro is $569.99.

Wayne Horvitz was a DX7 user back in the late '80s.

If I'm not mistaken his stuff on Zorn's Naked City albums was DX7 and Akai sampler.

Here's a bit of Canadian price comparison of similar products: Moog Audio has both new TRs at $539.99 Canadian. The MC101 is $699.99 The Novation Circuit is $499.99 Elektron Models are $429.99 The Korg Electribe is $618,00, the Electribe Sampler in red is $679.00. (Strangely Long and McQuade doesn't...

Modal Craftsynth V2.0? Runs on batteries, has a built in touch keyboard, no screen, and is cheap.

Moog Audio says it will be $209.99 Canadian. A Digitakt is $1099. A Model Samples is a better comparison, but even that is another 200 bucks new.
