Re: The Portable Multitrack Isn't Dead: Zoom R20.

It might have USB MIDI, as it has some sort of built in synth engine, which will play MIDI files.

The Portable Multitrack Isn't Dead: Zoom R20.

More than a decade after Zoom introduced the R8 they're finally going back to the R series with the new R20. Info has appeared in Japanese: https://zoomcorp.com/ja/jp/digital-mixer-multi-track-recorders/multi-track-recorders/r20/ An obvious problem with it is that it only has 2 combo jacks for its 8...

Re: Mike Oldfield

Kind of forgot about his output after that, though I think his 1990 album "Amarok" is an arresting listen... fantastic musicianship allied to lots of neat studio based ideas. Part of his writing process for Amarok was to make it difficult if not impossible to cut a chunk out of it for a single. He'...

Re: What are you listening to now?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UF-40yjQp4 Manfred Mann had the most success with covers during the Earth Band era, but this one was one he wrote. Some nice synth bits, but what might be mistaken for vocoder is talk box guitar from the late Steve Waller. He also did talk box guitar on "Don't Kill ...

Re: Tablehooter MIDI?

Yeah, some of the Casio home line had MIDI, like the MT240. I have no experience with using one as a controller, and I suspect a lot of them have fallen victim to circuit bending over the years. In the mid '90s Yamaha actually made a mini keys controller keyboard called the CBX K1, but I have no ide...

Re: Are polysynth manufacturers condemned to repeat their old fatal mistakes?

Synth makers have somewhat followed the same course as electric guitar makers, in that they've largely moved away from innovation towards making instruments that mimic their glory days, or the glory days of others. Because that's what much of the market wants. Many buyers aren't searching for new so...

Re: Behringer tease with ARP QUADRA

I've always been a fan of the Quadra. Although the only person I know who used it much was Tony Banks in Genesis, and only a few times then. Did it get used by other people? I swear you could briefly see one in the promo video for Tony Carey's "I Won't Be Home Tonight," but the video disappeared fr...

If Behringer were really cool they'd do a PPG 340/380 clone. Whether there's a working example in 2021 is another question.

The Zoom R8 and Tascam DP series recorders come to mind. They're the current equivalent of the old Boss BRs.

Are they actually putting any effort into duplicating/emulating the characteristic of the original, like its sample rate, DACs, and 8 bit samples?
