Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Hey Matthew! I got my build via Exploding Shed in Leipzig/Germany and finished it today. I'm more of a beginner/intermediate solderer, but had a great time putting it together and it seems to work flawlessly on the first attempt (spent the last hours testing it). So, thanks for all the time and eff...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

I've been looking at this project... probably won't dive in for other reasons, but I have to say it's a shame that this does not have an option to be powered from the +5 v rail. Next rev? That's an interesting thought! I haven't looked into it because my main case doesn't have a 5V rail. My initial...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Hi Matthew. I'm having trouble trying to install 1.1a firmware via terminal commands on Mac and Arduino. Error message on terminal: avrdude: error reading system wide configuration file "/Users/jenkins/jenkins/workspace/avrdude-staging/label/mac-mini/objdir/etc/avrdude.conf" I don't know who jenkin...

Re: Feature idea: play current step

Just an idea I had: a thing which would really improve my workflow programming this sequencer would be some way to play the note I am currently changing without having to press "play" and wait. I didn't find anything like that in the instructions and it would really help people like me who often ha...

Excellent! Glad to hear it's working at last. Do let me know when you post the panel designs, I might spin up a few myself.

Re: Super Sixteen firmware update 1.1 - installation support thread

Made a quick video, the scattering of the LED lighting gets more intense the more active steps are added to a sequence. Just noticed the glide and gate LEDs dont seem to be working at all too. .... The sequencer appears to work perfectly apart from the LEDs, I ended up wasting 10 minutes playing ar...

Re: Super Sixteen firmware update 1.1 - installation support thread

Thanks extralife The boards have been populated by jlc, all except the MCP4822, the 5v 1117 regulator and the large cap (on the cpu board), I did have to change some of the components that were out of stock, but all the ICs are correct as far as I can see. I've reflowed the 74HC and the headers, no...

Re: Super Sixteen firmware update 1.1 - installation support thread

got the whole thing assembled and got a strange issue with the LEDs. Theyre all illuminated at start up, which I think is normal and I can press the buttons to input CV values etc. However when I press play, the sequence plays but the LEDs will cycle in strange patterns. Could this be related to th...

Re: Super Sixteen firmware update 1.1 - installation support thread

Ok so I think the answer to my question is yes, although I am unable to test it until a few more bits of hardware come in. Does the code from the dude below look ok? c:\>avrdude.exe -P COM8 -p m328p -c stk500v1 -b19200 -U flash:w:firmware.hex avrdude.exe: AVR device initialized and ready to accept ...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

skimmed through the whole thread and I don't think this has been covered... Is it possible to program a new brain PCB without building the rest of the module? I have a couple of sets of partially populated SMT boards and I need to send one set to a friend who's getting into DIY. I need to place a c...

Just wondering, are there plans for future firmware updates?
Nothing set in stone yet, I'd like to do at least one more to add alternate modes for CV2 output with quantization for pitch CV or interval harmony, or possibly LFO shapes.

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Oh whoops! I have plenty of BC547, but not 2N3904, however I think they should be fine (but orientation matching the silkscreen) but happy to be corrected! Do you have a rough estimate when you might do a new firmware? BC547 is NPN, you need a PNP to replace the 2N3906. BC557 will probably work, pi...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Would you recommend those of us who have already built it to try to swap those transistors? Only if you find the display isn't bright enough! Desoldering stuff isn't very fun, I try to avoid it unless necessary. Also, the display module is plastic and will melt if you get the soldering iron close t...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Just a quick update to let people following know about 2 things: 1. I tested the memory chip alternate today (Winbond W25Q40CLSNIG) and it works perfectly. It has the correct narrow SOIC footprint and stores 99 patches without a problem (it could store 128 I believe). The original W25Q80DV could tec...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

More likely you have a soldering or part orientation issue. If your can post some clear photos of each board (both sides) here on the forum, I'd be happy to inspect and see if I can spot anything amiss. Thanks extralifedisco, can't wait to get it up and running! (The three transistors next to the d...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

I ordered a built Super Sixteen this weekend as I don't think I have the skills for this build yet, but this was a thought that occurred to me when looking at the capabilities... how hard would it be to support additional triggers out from the Super Sixteen? I could imagine a 2hp expansion with 4x ...

Not worth the risk if you have already soldered them in, but ideally sockets should of been used. Did it work is the main question though ;-) Texy Thanks. I've left them in place. Re: Super Sixteen firmware update 1.1 - installation support thread

I've just completed my super 16 build and done a very basic test. This is with the supplied v1.1 code, not the latest v1.1a code. I had already programmed another spare 328p chip from my spares box and fitted it to the s16. It does run, but it runs very slowly - I think perhaps it is because the fl...

Re: Super Sixteen firmware update 1.1 - installation support thread

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

I'm 80% of the way through the build, still waiting for some switches. Seems the 7-seg display is a little too tight to go through the square hole for it. I'll have to get the scalpel out.... Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Hi Matthew, I've not quite got all the parts yet, but I've started the first PCB build. Seems I forgot to order the 1uF capacitor with the rest of the majority of the parts from Farnell. I'll have a few 1uF caps in my spares box somewhere - I assume the 160v rating isn't too critical - anything ove...

Re: Super Sixteen build support thread

Annoyed with myself ! I ordered two lines of 2N2904's instead of ordering some 2N2906's. So I've ordered some from eBay. I also got my pcb + panel & Atmel chip from Thonk today, forgetting that it also included the grey tact switch button caps. Of course they need to go with square switch shafts, n...
