Re: What is the point of Quantized Random Voltages?

I checked out the linked SOU manual and it reminds me a lot of the A-149-1 manual, for obvious reasons. :hihi: But what you get from the output that I'm talking about, on the A-149-1, are random voltages quantized to produce all of the 12-tet semitones. You can limit the range and skew the output to...

Re: What is the point of Quantized Random Voltages?

You're still getting the notes in your chosen scale. They're arriving randomly as to time. OR they're arriving on a CLK-schedule, but with a random note -of the notes the scale has available. Really? I was under the impression that said modules quantize to any of the 12-tet notes and that you can h...

What is the point of Quantized Random Voltages?

From the Buchla Source of Uncertainty, Doepfer A-149-1 and Frap Tools Sapèl you can get quantized random voltages. Quantized to semitones, that is. What is the point of this? Note, I'm genuinely curious. To me, quantizing to a scale is very useful and unquantized voltages are very useful but I'm str...

DPO is rubbery and woody, not harsh or thin. Instruō Cš-L Is way harsher (at extreme FM settings).

The two separate-output algorithms do seem redundant, though.
One of the oscillators has the chord mode so you can choose to have FM chords or plain waveform chords. Therefore not fully redundant, I'd say.

Re: Akemie's castle vs Verbos Complex Osc vs ?

Akemie's Castle doesn't really have a soft/round tone in general (on its own). It's partly rather stiff and steppy. It can be used to make soft sounding music but you'll have to put in a bit of an effort. And there is no algorithm to choose from with two independent FM voices. It's either one operat...

Hm, no? I find my wavefolders to be rather smooth. Might depend on what sound source they are being sent and what you mean by "cracking/popping". Can you make a recording?

Re: Similar to MI Elements, but more organic

Flutes can sound harsh too, no? ;) But yeah, as stated, Elements won't give you realistic flute sounds without a lot of work and modulation. In any case, much of the sound is in the performance. Check this out: https://youtube.com/watch?v=U1feL6LInWQ Pedro Eustache is getting quite some flute like s...

Re: Similar to MI Elements, but more organic

I tried it in VCV Rack, and can´t get any sound that reseambles a "real" flute, nor a bowed instument..... Is that your definition of "organic", that something sounds acoustic? To me, Elements can do quite some acoustic sounding percussion put not flutes or anything like that. Most of the sounds I ...

Not an instant regret, but . . . i once had an EDP Wasp Special. Paid £50 for it. Found I wasn't using it, so sold it on together with its Caterpillar keyboard. A couple of years ago I discovered that they'd only made about 40 of them, and one sold for £4k. Wait, WHAT!?? only 40 of the Wasp made? N...

Never. When I sell any of my music tools I'm generally done with them. There are only two exceptions, gear that I wasn't really done with but that I had to sell due to my personal economy: Alesis Andromeda and Knas Polygamist. I'd never buy them again though.

Depends on the patch, really. Sometimes 1, sometimes 5-6. If there are as many as 6 going then a few of those won't be fully independent.

No budget and I've spent about $28k in a few years. Around $600/month.

Looking at what I've bought and sold I'm actually $500 or so in the black but if I should sell it all I would probably be $7-8k in the red. Most likely I'll never sell any of it, though.

I have no personal experience but based on all the videos I've seen it might not be the optimal oscillator for normal melodies. :D But perhaps, with very subtle modulation and moderate settings, it can sound lush and beautiful? I'd love to hear an example! Since I got myself a 100 Grit and found it ...
