Re: What is the point of Quantized Random Voltages?

yea, luke that's where my mind when as well. as a source of musicality it isn't a very good tool, but thinking of it as a sort of randomized sequencer, with reliably (eventually) repeating cv values it is probably more useful.

Re: rhythm wolf teardown: any questions?

very entertaining read.. both as a sort of reverse engineering diary and akai production drama. i picked up mine 3 or 4 years ago for a $99 sale, and even though its muddy and limited, as other said it lends itself to being processed just fine and never thought it worth it to get rid of it. looking ...

Re: Shepard's tone (with cv out)

Capture.JPG interesting, but this isnt really a Shepard tone is it? Shepard tones only have the illusion of going in one direction. Being sine wave, this example would go both up and down at the same time, which would be interesting, but not really a Shepard tone. I could set this up like the image...

Re: Shepard's tone (with cv out)

The Shepard tone of 8 parts is: 8 phased LFOs ramps controlling the VCAs of the eight VCOs . the pitches of the eight VCOs. The Sine/Tri is to control the pitches of the eight VCOs. the VCAs of the eight VCOs. You need to make sure the frequency of the LFOs are the same using a scope / precision tu...

Re: Has anyone gone from a mouse to a trackball?

i have a logitec m570 that's still going strong after 5 or 6 years. i really dislike using a regular mouse now, and the dedicated back/forward buttons are essential. it's annoying to clean finger gunk out every once in a while, but a small annoyance compared to pushing around something with your wri...

Re: Any advice on a rack for feedback & cybernetic processes?

when i hear cybernetic, i think of the soundmachines brain-interface module and the instruo plant cv generator thing - like patches driven by modulation sources derives from living things. or was the term more of an alternate use for a generative setup? as in mimicking simple computation/neural nets...

Re: Piston Honda MKIII dual morphing wavetable oscillator

re folks having issues with pitch, i was watching synth diy guys demo and he said the pitch knobs conform to a chromatic scale.. i'd never heard that before. could you be experiencing the module attempting to 'round up,' the pitch sequence or perhaps everything else is tuned flat vs the PH? see here...

Re: Hardware/software synths with unique/original oscillator designs.

what makes a dco/vco design unique? at the end of the day, it's a cycling waveform at audio rate. for me it is the way the waveform can be modulated, not necessarily the sounds it produces. my favorite example is the waveform address in the shapeshifter. normally one would use a sawtooth to read a w...

Re: Sampler for drums vs. Drum Modules

Personally I find drum modules and drum machines much, much easier to work with than samples. There is something about sculpting a sound until it fits, it works much better for me rather than trying to find the right sample. Same here! That’s why my sampler is full of Latin, African, and metallic p...

i don't really consume influencer videos anymore. i'm not going to say i've learned everything there is, but at a certain point learning your own tricks is more valuable after you get the basics down. these days i sort of look around at different eurorack artists for a hit of inspiration and patch i...

Re: In a bad need of a big Powered Case

i have a question about dimensions for Ivo and Basari on the MDLR 18u studio case. Arjan listed the specs as Dimensions (L/W/H) 71 cm x 46 cm x 25 cm. the 71cm for length seems quite long for 9u, i'm assuming that measurement includes the support for the vertical side on the back. i'm wondering if y...

Re: just looking for ideas - i have created a monster!?!

The icing on the cake for me right now is the claim in the "dumb sequencers" thread also created by OP that the "setup sounds soo good atm, so i don't want to change it" despite not having bought a single module and having absolutely no way of knowing if that is true or not. This thread reminds me ...
