Re: AJH synths Sonic XV ?

I think it sounds great, too. I don’t have it, yet, but it’s on my long-term shopping list. I have the AJH transistor and SEM filters (they are magnificent ). I’ve noticed that there are—or were—quite a few Sonic XVs floating around the used market. I strongly suspect that some people bought the XV ...

Re: E-RM Polygogo

this is not stereo panorama No, it’s a pseudo-stereo oscillator, which basically means you get distinct—but related—harmonics from two separate outputs. Certain situations result in imbalance, so the sound can vary in amplitude and harmonic complexity from one to the other. All the discussion of “s...

Re: Demos of tiptops 909 modules

My general feeling is that TipTop is not good at marketing. This assertion is based on many years of observation.

That said, I think they feel their modules are exact reproductions of the 909 circuitry, and sound exactly like a 909.

Seems to me like an expensive way to go, but each their own.

@mdoudoroff - for a concise and informed look at the roots of the Metropolis/Metropolix I suggest you refer to this link: https://www.synthtalk.net/articles/create-complex-patterns-with-these-eurorack-sequencers-from-ryk-and-intellijel/ Nice article. Yeah, I’m aware of the RYK/Roland heritage of th...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

Thank you for the informative response. Sounds like the Vector may have the slight upper hand, but I guess since you’ve never actually used Metropolix, it may difficult to truly say for certain. Either way, they seem to both be excellent at this task, and it probably just comes down to individual p...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

Has anybody here owned both the Vector, and Metropolix? Which would you say is more effective for making evolving melodies that change over time in interesting ways? Whlle I haven’t owned the Metropolix, I’ve studied it. Both sequencers have formidable tools for taking a simple sequence and having ...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

How well do the clips/scenes work on the Vector, as far as being able to switch up a melody, or baseline, that you’re playing? If you’re playing live, does this feature allow you to easily transition from one jam to another, and keep things interesting and evolving? I often struggle with knowing ho...

For something different, check out Just Friends. Does all kinds of interesting time-related envelope stuff. Bonus: a killer oscillator.

(NB: it can be hard to find, because each batch sells out, so pre-order when the opportunity arises.)

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

There is also the 1010 music toolbox, which has a touchscreen piano roll sequencer. Although it seems that it’s no longer produced. It has a grid editor they call a piano roll, but I don’t recall any of 1010music’s sequencers being able to record (relatively) unlimited, arbitrary MIDI events. Perha...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

So what's the Vector's recording functionality actually built for? I doubt too many people need half-assed CV and gates. Some customers seem ecstatic to just have any real-time recording ability. These features were added with the v2 firmware, and I expect they were what Jim could easily implement—...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer

In other words, at this time, there isn’t really any way to “record MIDI” into Vector. In theory, between Vector’s variable gate length and variable step length (stage length), it should be possible to possible to map a fairly arbitrary monophonic MIDI sequence to a monophonic Vector part. I specula...

Re: Calling all VCS 3 Fans: Feedback Desired on VCS 3-Inspired Eurorack Case

I don’t really see how you can “catch the spirit” of a VCS3 in Eurorack. You could just get a Syntrx for similar money—that would capture the spirit quite bracingly. You don’t seem particularly concerned with the sound and particular circuitry of the VCS3, but Analogue Systems ported most of the VCS...

Maybe they will, but on the other hand, Assimil8or is now six years old and some of these requests are probably impossible due to hardware limitations. Perhaps Rossum’s finite resources would be better—at least for their business—applied to a roadmap to an Assimil8or 2?

They’re pretty much all here:

Pan over stereo channels isn’t super common. Two offhand would be the Frap QSC and Texmix quad stereo module.

Re: Stereo mixing with master filter, aux, cue?

Ok, why—exactly—do you need stereo sends? You have to be doing something pretty specific for that to matter, since—usually—send processing is 100% wet and most effects sum L&R for processing, anyway. If you don’t actually need stereo sends, that opens up your options. Moreover, if you have a specifi...

Is there a way on the A8 to do polyphony? I load a sample on channel 1, make the next 3 channels the same sample - set them to cycle. Trigger from channel one.... But how would you do the CV? If all channels are set to receive CV from channel 1A, the CV of all channels changes at the same time....?...

IMO, the killer feature of Bitbox is its MIDI support. For some, the Ableton-ish loop stuff is also a distinct advantage. I found the UI on the Bitbox Mini maddening—others don’t seem to mind it.

Not to change the topic, but as an alternative to knurlies, I can strongly recommend Fullerkreg M3 x 8MM Socket Head Cap Screws and a dedicated driver (such as Wera 05118070001 2054 Screwdriver) How do these improve over Knurlies, other than being (I presume) less expensive? While I tend to sell off modules I’m phasing out for whatever reason, I now have a plastic bin with modules that I don’t plan to sell or see no point in selling. A couple are modules that aren’t worth the bother selling and still might come in handy in a pinch or I might give away when the right opp...

Re: On the quest for the best Eurorack sampler

Ahhh, makes sense! Unless I'm mistaken though the sample drum doesn't have inputs for recording either, unless some of the cv inputs double up, idk. The Sample Drum can sample through one of its inputs, but it’s kind of an afterthought, and the module overall is optimized for use as a drum sample p...

Re: Looking for 4-in/4-out pitch CV router/matrix: WMD SSM vs. ?

Hinton’s is clearly an excellent tool and gives you a bigger matrix. WMD’s has the advantage of addressable or sequenced presets (if that’s the right word). Also, those comparators can be interesting if you don’t ignore them. Also, you can daisy chain (at least) two SSMs with a ribbon cable if you g...
