Re: Overstayer Modular Channel - Who has one?

I couldn't find the dimensions of this online. Most specifically - what is its height, and then also - does it need ventilation on the top/bottom?

Re: mbira/kalimba etc

The Kongoma arrived today, and to my ears, sounds utterly captivating. Deep and full, especially when amplified and looped.

Re: RPE SEQ12 Sequencer

as far as polyphonic tracks - note that the drum mode can be used also. I haven't tried this in some time, so my memory of the details might be a little foggy, but i thought that it was pretty fun. In this mode, you can use the randomization function on an individual line, and as i recall, also the ...

Re: mbira/kalimba etc

ah......received my 'ekalimba', bought on b/s/t here, and it is so nice. I booted up the cocoquantus, which i haven't done for some time, and damn. i hadn't forgotten, but other than the abstract memory, hadn't accessed its insane looping/delay in some time. I used to be much more productive when i ...

Re: RPE SEQ12 Sequencer

yeah - as with the simultaneous sequences, keep in mind that the manual is, um, an approximation, but with a consistent style. there is some stuff that implied to me at first that it couldn't do, but most of the time, if it seems like it should, then it does.

Re: RPE SEQ12 Sequencer

yeah. you go to the screen in jam mode, and the first 6 columns each display the 6 steps in the respective ratchets. You can check or uncheck each step. It's pretty intuitive.

edit - shouldn't do these things from memory. the patterns are laid out horizontally, not vertically. Same idea.

Re: Sonic Potions LXR 2

i've been trying for some time to get the damn thing to respond to midi notes. I have gotten nowhere. i've tried the global channel. i've tried channel 1. this is new enough that it's likely user error, but i am just totally puzzled. i seem to have the config set properly so that it sees midi notes....

Re: mbira/kalimba etc

Another thing to look for are those old style Jamaican and Carribean rumba boxes. I don't like the tiny tined modern kalimbas, just don't work well with my thick fingers. Rare to find any rumba boxes with integral electronics though. i've gotten a few items from a fellow named Greg Trimble, who sel...

Re: RPE SEQ12 Sequencer

well, the old firmware has 99% (made up number) of the features of V353. I do like what i've used of the new features, but obviously there is no need to upgrade unless you want them. I think that the new features were posted earlier in this thread. I'll be interested to see what you do with it. Are ...

Re: RPE SEQ12 Sequencer

finally looking into the song mode. It seems awfully cool, and once i scratched my head enough (manual isn't always the clearest the first time around) i think i have it. in jam mode, you can choose the sequence that each track is actually using, but in song mode, you can actually chain them togethe...

Sorry about that Nelson, I didn’t read your comment close enough and now I caused you to buy more fun boxes. :) I’ll be curious to hear your impression. This falls a bit in the etc side of the thread but I really want to pick up all the Azzam Bell instruments: https://www.etsy.com/shop/AzzamBells As well as one of these: https://www.euphonicinstruments.com/ hah - outside of the "etc" clause, but my curiosity, of course, took over, and WOW. I couldn...

Re: mbira/kalimba etc

just fyi - i put the 'etc' in the title because it seems that there are other instruments in the kalimba/mbira family that tend to be called slightly different names. not an expert in this at all, but i think that 'llimba' refers to larger ones, etc. I was not thinking about tongue drums, etc, which...

Re: mbira/kalimba etc

I have some good resonant ones with boxes and flat steel tines. I have some with flat board mounted hammered steel tines. Re: mbira/kalimba etc

that is not personally my take on it, but you have more experience. I don't think that the Westernized Kalimbas would have the resonating box, but i see lots of videos of traditional mbiras without them. it's also my intuition (often wrong) that those resonating boxes would be great for acoustic one...
