Re: New film... Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and Legendary Tapes

Thanks for the heads-up chriscarter.

Saw this scheduled in this weeks Radio Times as well, appropriately bookended by other sympathetic programmes... a "must see" and nice to see Cosey Fanni Tutti's involvement.

Re: [Build Thread] Jasper, an EDP Wasp Clone

As an original Wasp owner (back in the day) I do hope that there will be another Jasper run soon as I refuse to capitulate to that dead bee ringer. There’s an builder from UK, who left 10pcb sets. I think he shared this info in the FB synth diy group. But I’m sure he’s here too Hope so as I relucta...

Re: Any advice on methods used to recalling patches?

If it's something you're particularly keen on bringing back, then as already mentioned, notes and pictures along with increasing your understanding of how you got there... if it's a particularly dense, cable obscuring patch, take several photos at different angles in good lighting and decent resolut...

Re: KORG miniKORG 700FS

It is kind of funny that this is being released at the reported price point, as the only reason that this synth is even relevant today and used on so many pioneering Synth Pop records is that it was the cheapest synth that the early groups could find could find! I agree however finding one in good ...

Re: What functions are most represented in your rig?

My engagement with principally eurorack modular is long and slow due to a number of factors, the central one being that my current, oh so persistent, living circumstance doesn't lend itself to the kind of full on home studio situation I once enjoyed. So there's a lot of ongoing module accumulation b...

Re: Recommend your weirdest craziest FX machine ever

I have an Alesis Akira, I wonder if that has any of the Bitrman effects on it. It has bit reduction. Something tells me that those independent units dedicated to one particular aspect may have been richer though... I think you're probably correct on that one. I still have most of the ModFX units an...

Re: What would you like in an advanced synthesis book?

As already touched on, it would be nice to see several examples of specialised modules such as a compressor, PLL, etc being constructed from standard and common utility modules. Also a section on Serge type modules with their more 'atomistic' approach... all of this could more readily help synthesis...

Re: Did classical music cover almost everything?

On buying my first sampler, an ancient and very limited Greengate DS3 in the mid 80s, I quite naively set about feeding it. This took me to Manchester University's extensive vinyl library and into the classical section... it also opened me up to Indian raga as well. After a while of repeat listening...

Re: Favorite Monosynth of All Time

I can only speak of what's passed through my hands. The OSC Oscar probably had the best sonics of any mono that I've owned in the past (regrettably, I sold it back in the 90s). It offered a stronger and more colourful/vibrant sound than monosynths like my MS-20 (my first) and SH-101, though my later...

Not sure if you will be able to get the new faceplates other than buying the complete module. Perhaps the main European distributer, ALEX4 distribution GmbH - email: info@alex4.de - may be able to help you out at this point.

Re: Frequency Central appreciation thread

Nice to see a generally favourable response to Frequency Central here. I've bought a few kits which are still awaiting their DIY turn in a very long backlog of pending projects and I think part of the decision on these has been due to an almost subliminal 'pick-up' of praise from disparate sources o...

Re: Sequential Pro 3

Yes, it works just like you would have another filter after the analogue one. You can modulate both cutoff, resonance and mix with any modulator like envelops, controls, oscillators etc. Since the modulation is done at full audio rate, it works really well even for fast modulation. Thanks unease. Q...

Much has been made of the "one filter at a time" configuration in the Pro 3. I don't have access to one but intend to buy in the not too distant future being quite happy with this filter set-up, but... .., after a little RTFM session something quite promising presented itself. Re: Modules with jumpers on the back - A definitive list?

Nice to see the rejuvenation of this thread. I have several jumper laden older Doepfer modules still awaiting casing-up after years of storage with plans for breakout expansions. As an aside, it's worth addressing the definitive list aspect of this thread in that some modules, such as the Doepfer A-...

Another angle on this is to listen to synth based bands at the start of their recording careers when they often had meagre resources and ask yourself if the later stuff really did sound significantly better or engaging when they had access to all the gear they desired.

Re: Waldorf Pulse filters - why the hate?

Never hated my Pulse Plus, but after a while, I let it go some 15 or so years ago. I felt there was something about the oscillators sounding, really hard to define it, a bit 'stiff', even when carefully detuned, this is something I never encountered, in this particular way, on any other analogue bas...

... LEDs are simply tooooo bright and obscure panel text... I found this too on my module straight out of the box. Happily, you can control the brightness of them in the "Settings" menu along with similar controls for the display screen. Considerably easier on the eye in most lighting conditions!
